With FontFlasher, our pixelfont creator, you can turn any font into a pixelfont giving a crisp appearance in Adobe Flash.

Flash uses TrueType fonts, but in smaller sizes, these fonts can look fuzzy (see example at right). FontFlasher converts almost any format font into pixelfonts — crisp outline fonts that simulate bitmaps. This improves legibility of screen text in small font sizes.

Note: FontFlasher requires FontLab Studio or TypeTool or TransType to generate a font in TrueType or Type 1 format.

Six easy steps:

First select any installed font to convert to a pixelfont.
Choose the pixel size for your font.
Select a codepage for your font or Unicode to convert all characters (requires Windows >= XP).
Save your font in FontLab format (.vfb).
Use the Pixel tool in FontLab Studio to edit your glyphs (requires installed Python interpreter) if necessary.
Generate your TrueType font in FontLab Studio, TypeTool or TransType and you’re done!

FontFlasher Specifications

Import format: Any format that can be rendered by the OS (including TrueType, Type 1, OpenType and .fnt and .fon bitmap formats)

Export Format: FontLab VFB. Requires FontLab Studio or TypeTool to generate font in TrueType or Type 1 format.

Software requirements: For Windows version: Microsoft Windows (95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP/Vistta/7). For Mac version: Mac OS 9.2+ with CarbonLib 1.6+ or Mac OS X (10.3 or higher recommended). FontFlasher will run on Intel-based Mac OS X, see details.

To generate TrueType pixelfonts (usable in Flash) from the VFB files that FontFlasher creates, you will need FontLab Studio, AsiaFont Studio, TransType or TypeTool.

To edit the pixelfonts using the Pixel tool (bitmap-style glyph editing tool) you need FontLab Studio or AsiaFont Studio with Python installed.
