Q: Do your Mac applications work on Intel-based Macs?
A: FontLab Studio 5, TypeTool 2, BitFonter 2, TransType, Fontographer 4.7 and our other Mac OS X applications work fine on Intel-based Macs, using the Rosetta compatibility layer.
The only reported problem is regarding use of the Python in FontLab Studio 5. Python is a cross-platform scripting language that can be used to automate repetitive task and extend the functionality of FontLab Studio. FontLab Studio 5 is our first Mac application on Mac OS X that uses the native “native framework” Python that comes pre-installed with Mac OS X, rather than the “Carbon” (CFM) MacPython-OS9 that previous FontLab versions used on Mac OS X. Since FontLab Studio 5 is PowerPC-compiled and runs through Rosetta, and the native framework Python is Intel-compiled, there is an incompatibility. However, note that simple, normal Python scripts work fine in this environment. The only thing that does not work is Python extensions written in C, for example certain portions of RoboFab. We are investigating the problem and will publish a possible workaround when it becomes available.
