Millersville, MD - Pyrus North America Ltd. announced the release of FontLab Composer(, a specialized "big font" editing product with an impressive list of features. With Composer, even the most exotic fonts can be built and managed. The most obvious example is the kanji character set. Once the domain of only the highest priced font manipulation technologies, Composer makes support for double byte character sets, or Unicode fonts, easily within the reach of anyone who is doing font manipulation.

The most impressive features include support for CID-keyed fonts to create and manipulate the full character sets of the Unicode and other large font specifications. These include all of the far eastern fonts like the kanji character set. In addition, the FontLab Composer is multilingual, localized to both English and Japanese. Future releases will include Korean, Chinese, German, French and Spanish. And finally, a Type 1 Font Editor allows users to perfectly and accurately produce new characters and add or change characters of existing fonts.

At the suggested retail price of $799, Composer is a complete font editing system that offers an impressive list of features that set the product apart from its closest competitor, making the product absolutely unique in the font manipulation market.

These features include:

  • Support for CID-keyed fonts,
  • Multilingual, localized to both English and Japanese,
  • Type 1 Font Editor,
  • Automatically hint your fonts,
  • Convert DBCS TrueType fonts into CID-keyed fonts, export in PC format, encode your fonts a dozen different ways,
  • Draw new characters quickly and easily with VectorPaint tools.

Our customers have spoken and we have listened. They told us these were the features they needed in a font manipulation package. And, they didn't want to pay an arm and a leg for these capabilities. We are excited about having the ability to offer this array of features at such a reasonable cost," said Ted Harrison, President of Pyrus N.A.

"In addition," he continued, "support for the double byte character sets (such as the Kanji Character Set) has never been available to most graphic arts shops. It has just been too expensive. With FontLab Composer, we have solved that problem".

FontLab Composer retails for $799, and comes with a 60 day satisfaction guarantee. The system requirements include: 8MB RAM, SVGA monitor, Mouse WIN95, WIN3.x, WIN NT or OS/2
